When using Google Ads and Unbounce landing pages it can be extremely useful to know what keywords a successful conversion used. Sure, you can see what keywords have converted in Google Ads, but using this following tutorial you’ll be able to match up the conversion to the keyword that was triggered or used in Google Ads.

Keep in mind that this does not send the search words used but rather the keyword that was triggered.

  1. Sign in to your Google Ads Account and navigate to “All Campaigns > Settings > Account Settings > Tracking”
  2. Add or identify the URL parameter for the Google Ads Keyword
    1. If the “tracking” field is NOT empty make sure that there isn’t a URL parameter that uses the “{keyword}” variable.
      • If there is a parameter with the “{keyword}” variable, write down the parameter name. So if the existing tracking parameter looks like this: “{lpurl}?campaign={campaign}&kywd={keyword}” then “kywd” would be the parameter name.
      • If there isn’t a parameter with the “{keyword}” variable then add “&key={keyword}” to the end. So if the existing tracking parameter looks like this: “{lpurl}?campaign={campaign}” then you would add “&key={keyword}” to the end.
    2. If the “tracking” field is empty, paste this into the field without the quotes: “{lpurl}?key={keyword}”.

  1. Once that’s set up, head over to your Unbounce landing page, click on a form, and then click on “Edit Form Fields” on the right-hand side.
  2. Add in a “hidden field” from the custom fields section on the right and name the field the same name as the parameter name outlined in step #2. For example, if you used our tracking field parameters (“{lpurl}?key={keyword}”) then your field would be named “key”. If the keyword parameter was already there then use that parameter name as outlined in step 2.1
